Tips & guide

Everything you want to know before you go

What makes the tabaquillo forest so special?

The tabaquillo is a native high-mountain tree that grows twisted by the wind and altitude; some specimens are over 700 years old. These forests are increasingly rare and shelter mountain wildlife, so we walk through them with respect and leave no trace.

When is the best time for this trek and how do I take good photos?

The trail can be done all year; spring and autumn have the ideal temperature, in summer it's best to set out early and in winter to wrap up for the cold mornings. For photos, look for soft morning light and add a person in the frame to show the scale of the ancient tree.
